Is theScore Bet Legal in Ontario?
Yes. theScore Bet is operated by Score Media and Gaming Inc., registered as an internet gaming operator with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and providing the service on behalf of iGaming Ontario, an agent of the Crown. That structure is stated in the operator’s own Ontario Specific Terms, posted 17 April 2026.
Score Media and Gaming is the Toronto company behind theScore, and it is owned and operated by PENN Entertainment, Inc. – a detail theScore Bet states plainly in its own self-exclusion policy, because excluding yourself here excludes you from every PENN product, online and in physical casinos.
The Ontario terms are not boilerplate. They name who may not hold an account in this province: anyone under 19, anyone in a self-exclusion process, employees of the AGCO, and officers or employees of the OLG and iGO. They also carry integrity rules that some books leave vague – athletes, coaches, managers, referees, anyone with authority to influence an outcome, and any owner of 10% or more of a governing body or member team is barred from betting on events that body oversees.
One thing worth knowing about the corporate picture: in the United States, PENN’s ESPN BET was rebranded to theScore Bet on 1 December 2025. Ontario was never ESPN BET – it has been theScore Bet since the province opened – but it means the app you use here is now the same brand PENN runs across 20 US states. In Canada, theScore Bet also went live in Alberta, under the Alberta iGaming Corporation and the AGLC.

Which Sports You Can Bet On
theScore Bet publishes its own sportsbook sitemap, and that is the one place where you can count the board without an account. It lists 182 competitions across 21 sports. Soccer and tennis carry the most:

For a Canadian book, seven hockey competitions is a shallower-looking number than you might expect – but that counts leagues, not games, and the NHL, the AHL, the world championships and the major European leagues are all in there. The organisations behind those 182 competitions span 51 countries and governing bodies, from the ATP and WTA to NASCAR, IndyCar, Formula 1, LIV Golf, the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour and Riot’s esports circuit.
The Rulebook Is Much Bigger Than the Board
This is the gap most reviews miss, and it cuts both ways. The Ontario House Rules contain 65 sport-specific rule sets – 62 sports plus esports, politics and “specials” – while the public board indexes 21 sports. The rulebook is written for PENN’s whole footprint, so it covers sports theScore Bet is ready to price rather than sports it prices in Ontario today.
It is a genuinely unusual list. Alongside the expected ones, theScore Bet has published grading rules for cornhole, jai-alai, pesapallo, padel, pickleball, SlamBall, Power Slap, professional tag, rodeo, breaking, and Academy Awards markets. The practical value of a rulebook this size is in the boring parts. It defines Push, No Action and Void separately and explains exactly what each does to a parlay: the leg drops out and the odds are recalculated on the legs that remain. It states that all payouts are calculated on decimal odds no matter which format you have selected on screen, and that the rounding you see in your bet history is display-only – the payout uses the real number. And it puts the operator’s discretion in writing, including the right to delay grading until official results are available.
Same Game Parlay is limited to select game lines and player props in four leagues – NHL, NFL, NBA and MLB – and is pre-game only. Alternate lines on those markets are eligible too. The one genuinely useful part is that an SGP is not a closed box: you can combine same-game legs with legs from other games in a single slip. Related markets that cannot co-exist (the money line and the point spread on the same event, or two related props on the same player) are blocked in the slip with an error that flags the offending leg.
Teasers are offered, and cash out exists – including cashing out early – but it is handled inside the betting app, from the My Bets screen. If you use theScore media app, cash out buttons appear there too, but they only deep-link you back into theScore Bet to finish the job.
Live Streaming, and How Much of It There Is
This is theScore Bet’s strongest single claim, and it is published rather than implied: more than 150,000 live sporting events a year streamed inside the app. The eligible sports are basketball (excluding the NBA), baseball (excluding MLB), ice hockey, tennis, soccer, volleyball, darts, table tennis and handball. Those two exclusions matter – the NBA and MLB carve-outs are broadcast rights, not a technical limit, and theScore Bet says as much.
There is an NFL-specific mode called BetVision, which puts the markets inside the stream so you can bet without leaving the video. It runs on iOS and Android only, not on the web.
Access rules are strict and stated: you must be logged in, physically in a province where theScore Bet operates, and hold a cash balance. Place a bet and drop to a zero balance, and you keep access to that event’s stream. The underlying plumbing is third-party – the site loads Genius Sports’ live viewer data service and a THEOplayer licence, both visible in theScore Bet’s own public front-end configuration.
Stake Limits, in Writing
Very few books publish this. theScore Bet’s Ontario House Rules state the overall online stake range outright: a minimum of $0.10 and a maximum of $1,500,000 per wager. Within that range, the book sets limits wager by wager and patron by patron at its own discretion – so the ceiling is theoretical for almost everyone – but having both ends in a public document is more than most competitors offer.
theScore Casino
theScore Casino is a separate product with its own app, live in Ontario and Alberta. theScore Bet documents its casino floor publicly, in its own game guides.
The live dealer floor is Evolution’s, and the recognisable titles are all there: Crazy Time, Monopoly Live, Lightning Dice, MegaBall, Deal or No Deal Live, Fan Tan, Super Sic Bo, Ultimate Texas Hold’em, Three Card Poker, and a full blackjack spread from Classic through Infinite, Speed, Power and Salon Privé. Roulette runs to nine documented variants including Immersive, Double Ball, French, American and Auto Roulette, plus the First Person range for players who want the RNG version rather than a dealer.
On slots, the published guides lean heavily on NetEnt (Starburst, Gonzo’s Quest, Dead or Alive, Blood Suckers, Divine Fortune, Jumanji), Red Tiger (Dragon’s Luck, Pirates Plenty, Vault Cracker, Mystery Reels, Wings of Ra) and IGT’s land-based catalogue brought online (Cleopatra, Da Vinci Diamonds, Wolf Run, White Orchid, Wheel of Fortune, Lucky Larry Lobstermania).

Payment Methods
theScore Bet publishes a full cashier table with limits and timings, which is the standard the rest of the market should be held to. Note that its table covers the whole PENN footprint, so some rows are US-only. The minimum deposit is $10 on every method. These are the ones available on the Canadian side:

Two rows deserve a flag. The wire transfer minimum is $10,000, which makes it irrelevant to almost everyone – it exists for high-stakes accounts, not for topping up. And Interac appears twice because the two products behave differently: Interac Online Banking hands you to your bank’s login page and gives you a 30-minute window to complete, while Interac e-Transfer sends you to your banking app to push money to the address on your theScore Bet account.
Deposit Limits and Fees
theScore Bet charges no fee on deposits or withdrawals. That is stated flatly in its help centre, with the usual and fair caveat that your own bank or wallet may charge you.
The initial deposit limits are published, which is rarer than it should be, and one of them is easy to trip over:

The monthly ceiling is the one to watch: it is $10,000 across all methods on a rolling basis, so a single $10,000 Trustly deposit uses your whole month. Raising it is a manual request, not a setting. In the other direction, you can set your own lower limits yourself under Account → Responsible Gaming → Deposit Limits.
Withdrawals in Ontario
theScore Bet names the Ontario withdrawal list explicitly, which saves the usual guessing: Visa debit, online banking via Trustly, Interac e-Transfer, PayPal and bank EFT. Prepaid and gift cards are not accepted for payouts, and only Visa works on the debit route – Mastercard is deposit-only.

Be honest with yourself about that timeline. Up to 72 hours for approval plus one to three business days in transit is a slow payout by 2026 standards, and it is the clearest weakness in an otherwise well-documented cashier. The flip side is that a withdrawal you cannot cancel is a withdrawal you cannot talk yourself out of – and if you genuinely need it reversed, support can do it.
Verification Before Your First Withdrawal
You must upload government-issued ID before requesting your first withdrawal, not after. There is a second trigger on the way in as well: depositing more than $2,500 cumulatively requires a verified ID, so the wall arrives sooner than most players expect.
Deposits and withdrawals are also subject to review, and a payment method may need separate proof of ownership – a bank statement or void cheque showing your name, transit number and account number. Once a method is verified, theScore Bet states it will not ask again unless you change it. Do the upload on the day you open the account and none of this will cost you time later.
The theScore Bet App
The app is the point of this operator, and the numbers back it up – with one clear split between platforms.

The sportsbook app has been on the Canadian App Store since 21 March 2022 – two weeks before Ontario’s regulated market opened – and was last updated on 29 August 2026. A 4.7 average across 29,057 ratings is a large, mature sample and one of the strongest in the province.
The Android picture is different and should not be smoothed over: 4.1 against the same app’s 4.7 on iOS is a real gap, on a smaller but still meaningful 2,970 ratings. The casino app splits the same way, and more sharply – 4.7 on iOS against 3.3 on Android, though the Android sample is only 58 ratings and too small to lean on hard.
Note also that casino and sportsbook are separate apps. Operators such as bet365 and ComeOn! put both in one download; theScore Bet does not.
FUSE, and theScore Media App
This is the feature no other Ontario operator can copy, because no other Ontario operator owns a sports media app with 345,000 App Store ratings.
If you use theScore media app for scores and news, FUSE lets you start building a slip there and finish it in theScore Bet with one tap. Bets you have placed are tracked back inside the media app while the game runs, and the teams you favourite in one app are highlighted in the other. You do not need theScore media app to bet – the operator says so directly – but the integration is genuine, not a badge.
Ontario Only: How the Geo-Fence Works
Location is enforced by GeoComply, the same provider used across the regulated North American market. The rule is the one every AGCO-registered book follows: you may only place a bet while physically inside the province. Logging in, depositing, withdrawing and reviewing your transaction history work from anywhere in Canada.
On mobile the check is invisible. On desktop it is not – theScore Bet requires a GeoComply browser plug-in, installed once from the operator’s own linked installers for Mac or Windows, plus location permission in the browser itself. Returning users just approve a pop-up.
theScore Bet also publishes a specific warning that shows the maintenance this involves: Firefox 144 now asks for Local Network Access before location data can be retrieved, and the operator tells users to tick “Remember my choice for this site” and click Allow, or the prompt returns on every visit. If you bet on a desktop, expect the geo-check to be the part that occasionally needs attention.
Customer Support
Support runs on live chat inside the app and support@thescore.bet, and theScore Bet states the team is available 24/7/365.
There is no phone number for Ontario. The number theScore Bet publishes, 1 (844) 953-2121, is explicitly for residents of Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. Ontario players get chat and email only, which is now the norm in this market but is still a limitation worth naming.
Complaints have a published path and a published clock: theScore Bet’s support team responds within five business days. If you are not satisfied after that, you escalate to iGaming Ontario’s Customer Care and Dispute Resolution department. iGO expects you to have exhausted the operator’s own process first, so keep your ticket references.
Security and Reputation
Age verification is done at sign-up rather than at first withdrawal – theScore Bet asks for identity documents during account creation and can restrict or suspend the account until age and identity are confirmed. The Ontario terms warn that anyone found to be under 19 may be reported to law enforcement.
The responsible gaming tooling is stronger than average, mostly because of who owns it. Self-exclusion runs six months, one year, five years or lifetime, and it is not limited to this app: it blocks every PENN Entertainment online real-money product and their physical casinos for the period chosen. Open bets are cancelled and your balance is returned by cheque to the address on file – worth knowing in advance, because it is slower than a normal payout.
You can also set a daily time limit, and it has teeth: reach it and the app logs you out with a message telling you to come back tomorrow. Deposit limits are self-service under the Responsible Gaming menu.
Separately from anything theScore Bet controls, BetGuard lets you opt out of all regulated online gambling in Ontario at once. It is run by iGaming Ontario, not by the operator, needs no player account, and is open to anyone 19 or older – BetGuard.ca, or 1-833-776-7171.

theScore Bet earns 4 out of 5, and it earns it on documentation and on the app rather than on raw board size.
What it does better than almost anyone in Ontario: it publishes. The stake range is in writing ($0.10 to $1,500,000). The cashier is a real table with real limits and real timings, and there are no operator fees. The House Rules run to 65 sport-specific rule sets and tell you exactly how a voided leg is handled inside a parlay. Live streaming is quantified – more than 150,000 events a year – instead of being waved at. And on iOS, a 4.7 average across 29,057 ratings is not a marketing number, it is a large sample of people who use it every week.
What holds it back is the cashier’s clock and the platform gap. Up to 72 hours to approve a withdrawal, then one to three business days on top, is slow; the $10,000 rolling monthly deposit ceiling will annoy a subset of players; there is no phone support for Ontario; the Android apps rate materially below their iOS twins; and casino and sportsbook being separate downloads is a step backwards from the one-app norm.
