Best Betting Apps in Ontario 2026: iPhone & Android Apps Measured

Almost every “best Ontario betting apps” page you will find was written without opening a single app. We checked: the four pages ranking above this one for that phrase contain no download size, no app version, no store rating and no operating system requirement between them. They rank apps without measuring them.

So we measured them. Thirty-one betting apps – one for every brand in the iGaming Ontario register that ships a mobile product – all read on the same day. Where an operator publishes on both platforms we read both listings; where it publishes on only one, we read that one and say so. Thirty-one are on the Canadian App Store and twenty-eight are on Google Play Canada. Caesars, TonyBet and Titan Play have no Ontario Android app we could find.

Best Ontario Betting Apps at a Glance

If you want the answer before the evidence, this is it. One caveat first, and it governs the whole page: these are judgements about apps, not about sportsbooks. Odds, market depth, payment options, payout speed and customer service are not measured here at all – those belong in our individual reviews, and a brilliant app can sit on top of an ordinary book.

How We Measured These Apps

For this review we read the Canadian storefronts of Apple’s App Store and Google Play, all on the same day for every sportsbook app tied to a brand in the iGaming Ontario register, and recorded what the stores publish: version number, download size, minimum operating system, rating, number of ratings, install band, supported languages and the date each app was last updated.

• Every figure below comes from Apple’s or Google’s own Canadian listing, read on that date. Nothing is estimated and nothing is carried over from an earlier version of this page.
• The legal status of each brand comes from our guide to legal sports betting in Ontario and from the public iGaming Ontario register, which listed 49 operators and 84 gaming sites as accurate to 1 September 2026. Thirty-five of those sites are registered for sports betting.
• Ratings are the all-versions average each store displays to a Canadian visitor, not the current-version score, which moves too quickly to be useful.
• App sizes are the figures Apple shows on the Canadian listing. If you check one against ours and it differs by a megabyte or two, that is Apple recompiling the app for your specific device.
• Everything here is drawn from what the stores publish. Any claim that would need a deposit to verify is not on this page – and the section on what we could not test says so plainly.

How We Rank Ontario Betting Apps

“Best” needs a definition, so here is ours. The ranking further down is not the store rating alone, because a 4.9 from fifteen people is not evidence – and that is a real example from this table, not a hypothetical.

Four things decide the order, in this priority:

• Rating weighted by how many people gave it. A score standing on six figures of ratings outranks a marginally higher score standing on a few hundred. This is why Hard Rock Bet, rated 4.68 on iOS and 4.7 on Android, does not appear in our top five: those scores rest on 215 and 31 ratings respectively.
• Both platforms, not the flattering one. An app is penalised for the gap between its iPhone and Android scores, because Ontario bettors are split across iPhone and Android and we have no way of knowing which one you are holding – and, as the table below shows, the two versions are frequently not the same product in any meaningful sense. This is why BetVictor – 4.70 on iOS, one of the best in the province – is not ranked at all.
• How many phones it will actually run on. Minimum iOS version and download size, both of which decide whether the app installs for a given reader rather than how good it is once installed.
• Update cadence. A book shipping releases every week is maintaining the product; one silent for three months is not. This is a tie-breaker, not a headline factor – frequent releases prove attention, not quality.

The weighting is a threshold rather than an equation, and we would rather describe it plainly than dress a judgement up as arithmetic. Above 10,000 ratings we read a score as a settled verdict on the app. Between 1,000 and 10,000 it is good evidence, but a two-tenths gap between two apps inside that band decides nothing. Below 1,000 the score is indicative only, and below about 200 we quote it and then set it aside – a 4.9 from fifteen people and a 4.5 from fifteen thousand are not the same kind of fact, and no formula we could invent would make them comparable. That one rule explains most of the order below.

Why a Higher Score Can Finish Lower

So an app with the higher star rating can finish below one with a lower rating, and usually does. BetRivers holds the best iPhone score in Ontario at 4.80 and still ranks fourth, because 4,111 ratings is a far thinner claim than bet365’s 177,001 and its Android side is good rather than exceptional.

Ontario Betting Apps: Every App, Measured

This is the full table. Thirty-one apps, both platforms, all read on the same day. Sorted by the number of people who have rated the iPhone app, because that is the closest thing to an honest popularity measure the stores give away. Where we have reviewed the sportsbook behind the app, the last column links to it – the app is only ever part of the picture.

Eight Apps We Added in This Update

This page covered 23 apps when we first built it. Reviewing eight more Ontario brands turned up eight more apps, and they change the shape of the table at both ends.

BetNova is the clearest illustration of the sample-size rule this page keeps repeating. Its Android app shows 4.8 – from ten-plus installs. That is not a good app; that is not a measurement.

At the other end, ToonieBet’s 2,608 iOS ratings put it above 888sport and PointsBet on evidence, not just on score – and it was sitting outside this table until now.

Three Brands With No App at All

Adding brands also adds absences, and these are worth stating because a phone-first bettor can rule them out immediately.

Maverick Games has no app on either store: we searched both and tested three likely package names. It is a browser-only product.

DAZN Bet has no Ontario app either, despite the brand’s app being a fixture in other markets.

And Pinnacle’s Ontario site remains browser-only in this province, as it was when we first built this page.

The iPhone and Android Scores Are Not the Same App

Every roundup you will read gives a betting app one score. The stores give it two, and they frequently disagree so violently that they cannot both be describing a good product.

BetVictor is the extreme case. On the App Store it holds 4.70 from 4,430 ratings – one of the best scores in the province. On Google Play the same brand’s app holds 2.5 on Google Play. That is not a rounding difference. That is a well-liked iPhone app and an Android app its own users are actively angry about, sold under one name.

DraftKings is the exception that matters. It is the only app in Ontario that is both hugely popular on Android – 5 million-plus installs and 280,000 ratings, more than twice the rating count of any other betting app in the province – and rated higher there (4.7) than on iPhone (4.68). If you bet on an Android phone, this is the single most important line in this article.

Four Apps, One Shared Build

Four Ontario sportsbook apps were carrying the exact same version number at the time of this review: 26.08.04.

• BetMGM – 124.6 MB
• Sports Interaction – 122.7 MB
• PartySports – 121.9 MB
• bwin – 96.8 MB

Identical version strings, three of the four within three megabytes of each other, and all four demanding the same unusually high minimum operating system. That points to a shared app build rather than four independent products – and the register explains why. The odd one out on size is bwin, which shipped a noticeably lighter binary while keeping the same version string. In the iGaming Ontario listing, Sports Interaction, PartySports and bwin all sit under the same legal entity, ElectraWorks Maple Limited, with BetMGM Canada Inc. next to them as the group’s joint venture.

What it means for you is simple and worth knowing before you spend an evening downloading three apps to compare them: you will most likely be comparing the same build three times. The odds and the account terms differ; the software underneath appears not to.

The Apps Your iPhone May Refuse to Install

This is the finding with the most immediate practical consequence, and we have not seen it published anywhere else.

Those same four apps require iOS 18 or later. Nothing else in the province comes close: the rest of the market ships for iOS 14, 15, 16 or 17.

The requirement is the fact that matters, because it is what the store checks before it lets you download. The iPhone models are the consequence, and they follow Apple’s own support lists: iOS 18 and iOS 17 both need an iPhone XR or XS (2018) or newer, iOS 16 needs an iPhone 8 or X (2017) or newer, and iOS 15 and 14 reach back to the iPhone 6s (2015). The gap between the smallest and largest betting app in Ontario is twenty-four-fold, and it correlates with nothing at all – not with quality, not with features, not with rating.

The extremes are worth separating, and the distinction matters enough that we keep it consistent everywhere on this page. NEO.bet is the smallest Ontario betting app outright, at 21.0 MB – but it is a recent arrival with 14 iPhone ratings, so its size says more about how little is in it than about efficient engineering. bet365, at 46.0 MB, is the smallest of the established books – the most-rated betting app in Ontario by a factor of two and a half, and still lighter than every rival with a comparable following. Those are two different records and we do not merge them. At the other end, Caesars is the largest at 505.9 MB, more than eleven times bet365, and it carries the lowest iOS rating of any major book here (4.13). Whatever those extra 480 megabytes are doing, they are not making users happier.

The Best Ontario Betting Apps

Judged by the method set out above – weighted rating first, both platforms second, reach third, maintenance as the tie-breaker.

1. DraftKings – strong on both platforms at once

DraftKings holds 4.68 on iOS and 4.8 on Android, and the Android figure rests on 280,000 ratings and more than 5 million installs – the largest body of evidence behind any betting app in Ontario, by a wide margin. It was updated on both stores in the week we checked, with the iPhone release landing on the day we read the listings.

The cost is space: 339.6 MB, the second-largest app here, and it needs iOS 16.2. Read the full DraftKings Ontario review for what the sportsbook itself is like.

2. bet365 – the efficient one

46.0 MB. That is the whole story and it is remarkable: the most-rated betting app in Ontario (177,001 iOS ratings, 4.70) is also the smallest of the established books, by 10 MB, and it runs on iOS 15 – meaning an iPhone 6s from 2015. Android sits at 4.6 with 500,000+ installs, one of the narrowest cross-platform gaps in the table.

If you have an old phone, a full phone, or a data cap, this is the app to install first. The bet365 Ontario review covers the sportsbook behind it.

3. Betway – the second-lightest, and consistent

62.9 MB, 4.71 on iOS from 72,005 ratings, 4.5 on Android with over a million installs, updated on both stores in the last week of August 2026. Betway is the only other operator that has kept its app under 100 MB while carrying a serious rating volume. See the Betway Ontario review.

4. BetRivers – the highest iOS score in the province

At 4.80, BetRivers has the best iPhone rating of any Ontario sportsbook app, and 4.4 on Android holds up. The caveat is volume: 4,111 iOS ratings against bet365’s 177,001. A high score from a smaller crowd is a weaker claim, and we would rather say so. BetRivers Ontario review.

5. FanDuel – strong on iPhone, ordinary on Android

4.78 from 44,477 iOS ratings is among the best in the province. Android tells a different story at 4.1, and the app is 276.5 MB. A clear recommendation for iPhone users and a much softer one for everyone else. FanDuel Ontario review.

Where we would be careful

• Titan Play – 1.57 on iOS from 14 ratings, and no Android app we could find. The lowest score of any app in this table. Our TonyBet review covers the rest of the operation.
• NEO.bet – the other one: 2.57 on iOS from 14 ratings and 2.3 on Android from six. The iPhone app arrived recently and had not been updated since 27 February 2026 when we checked.
• PointsBet and BetVictor – fine on iPhone, poor on Android (2.7 and 2.5). Platform-dependent recommendations, not general ones.
• NorthStar Bets – 3.56 on iOS, 3.5 on Android, and the iPhone app had not been updated since 20 May 2026, the longest gap of any established book in this table. NorthStar Bets review.

Best App for Live Betting

Live betting punishes a slow app more than any other kind of wagering: odds move while you are tapping, and an app that stalls on a refresh costs you the price you were trying to take. We cannot benchmark responsiveness from a store listing, so what we can offer is a proxy – the apps that combine a top-quartile rating on both stores with an active release schedule. At the time of this review that is DraftKings (4.68 / 4.7, updated 30 and 27 August) and Betway (4.71 / 4.5, updated 27 and 25 August). Frequent releases are not proof of speed, but a book that ships every week is a book still working on the thing.

Best App for an Older or Full Phone

bet365, on both counts: 46.0 MB, and it installs on iOS 15 hardware. PowerPlay (57.8 MB) and Betway (62.9 MB) are the only established books under 70 MB, and BET99 reaches furthest back of all, running on iOS 14.

The contrast is what makes the number matter. DraftKings ships at 339.6 MB and FanDuel at 290.3 MB — roughly seven times bet365’s footprint for the same core product. On a phone that is already full, that is the difference between fitting one sportsbook and fitting three.

Size is also a proxy for what the app tries to be. The smallest builds are sportsbooks with a casino bolted on; the largest bundle a casino, a poker room and a daily fantasy product into the same download, whether you use them or not.

Best App If You Bet on Android

DraftKings, and it is not close. It is the only Ontario betting app rated above 4.5 on Google Play with a six-figure rating count. Betway (4.6 on Android) and Betano (4.3, 116,000 ratings) follow. Avoid BetVictor and PointsBet on Android specifically, whatever their iPhone scores suggest.

The split between the two stores is the thing to watch, because a single average hides it. BetVictor and PointsBet both sit comfortably on iPhone and fall to 2.5 and 2.7 on Google Play — close to two full points on the same product, from the same operator, in the same province.

It is also worth checking when the Android build was last updated, not just its score. An app that has not shipped a release in months will score the same as one that ships weekly until the ratings catch up.

How Popular Are These Apps?

Ontario has thirty-five registered sports betting sites, which sounds like a competitive market. The install numbers say it is not.

The rating counts are the firmer number, because they are exact rather than banded. bet365’s 177,001 iOS ratings are more than the next three apps combined, and more than eighteen hundred times the ninety-five ratings behind PowerPlay’s score. When you see PowerPlay at 3.77 and BetRivers at 4.80, remember that one of those numbers rests on ninety-five opinions and the other on four thousand.

The App That Does Not Exist

One absence is worth stating, because a roundup that lists an app which cannot be installed is worse than one that omits it.

Caesars has no Ontario Android app. We searched Google Play’s Canadian storefront for the brand and found only “Caesars Palace Online Casino” and a New Jersey sportsbook app – neither of which is the Ontario product. The iPhone app exists (505.9 MB, 4.11). Android users are on the mobile site. Our Caesars Ontario review covers what that means in practice.

The Pinnacle book is registered for sports betting in Ontario under Pinny (Ontario) Limited, and we found no iPhone or Android app for it in the Canadian stores. That is a browser-only sportsbook in this province.

Ontario’s Market, in the Regulator’s Own Numbers

Context for the tables above, taken from iGaming Ontario’s own monthly market performance report – the July 2026 edition, published 26 August 2026 and the most recent available.

Are Betting Apps Legal in Ontario?

Yes, if the app belongs to a registered operator – and the list of who qualifies is public.

Ontario’s regulated market opened on 4 April 2022, run by iGaming Ontario under the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. Ontario was the first province in Canada to open online sports betting to private operators, and for four years it was the only one – but that changed on 13 July 2026, when Alberta launched a competitive market of its own on a closely similar model. If you are reading this from outside Ontario, the app you want may now be legal where you are too, under a different regulator and different account terms.

As of the register’s own stated accuracy date of 1 September 2026, it holds 49 operators and 84 gaming websites, of which 35 are registered for sports betting. Every app in the table above belongs to one of them.

Three consequences most pages skip:

• The legal age is 19. Not 18, as it is for lottery products in some provinces, and not 21.
• You must be physically in Ontario to place a bet, not merely an Ontario resident. The apps enforce this with location checks – which is why an Ontario account stops taking bets the moment you cross into Quebec or Manitoba. An Ontario account does not become an Alberta account when you land in Calgary.
• OLG’s Proline is a separate case. It is conducted and managed by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation rather than contracted through iGaming Ontario, which is why the register footnotes it separately – and why OLG’s numbers are not in the market report above.

Native Apps vs the Mobile Site

Every Ontario sportsbook works in a phone browser, and for some of them that is the only route.

How to Choose an Ontario Betting App

The method above is ours; this is how to run a shortened version of it on the two or three brands you are actually considering. It takes about five minutes on a store listing and answers most of what a roundup cannot answer for you.

1. Start with your phone, not the brand. Check your iOS version in Settings, General, About, then check it against the requirement on the listing. If you are below iOS 18, four Ontario apps are already out – and there is no workaround.
2. Read the score for your platform. Not the one a review site quotes. BetVictor is 4.70 on iPhone and 2.5 on Android; the average of those two numbers describes nobody’s experience.
3. Look at the rating count before the rating. A 4.9 standing on fifteen opinions tells you nothing. Under a thousand ratings, treat the score as a first impression rather than a verdict.
4. Check the developer line. The listing names the legal entity – Hillside Technology for bet365, Entain Operations for PartySports and bwin – and that name should match a brand in the iGaming Ontario register. A brand name alone is not verification.
5. Check the last update date. An app that has not shipped a release in three months is a book that is not fixing anything either.
6. Judge the sportsbook separately from the app. This is the one the store cannot help with, and it is the one that decides whether you are happy in six months: odds, market depth, payment methods, withdrawal times and support quality are invisible from a listing. That is what our reviews are for.

How to Install an Ontario Betting App

On iPhone:

1. Open the App Store and search the brand name. Check the seller. The listing should name the operator or its legal entity – Hillside Technology for bet365, Entain Operations for PartySports and bwin, Rush Street Interactive for BetRivers – and that name should match the brand in the iGaming Ontario register. A brand name alone is not verification; the developer line is.
2. Confirm you have the Canadian listing rather than an American or European one. The quickest tell is the store you are signed into: an Ontario app on a US Apple ID will often not appear at all.
3. Check the “Compatibility” line against your iOS version before downloading. This is where the iOS 18 apps will stop you.
4. Install, open, and register with your legal name and address. Ontario books verify identity; a nickname will fail the check later, usually at withdrawal.
5. Allow location access. Without it the app cannot confirm you are in Ontario and will not accept a bet.

On Android:

1. Search Google Play for the brand and verify the developer name matches the operator in the register, exactly as above.
2. Install from the Play Store only. Ontario’s registered books all distribute through it – if a site offers you an APK download instead, that is a reason to stop, not to continue.
3. Register, verify identity, and allow location access as above.

What We Could Not Test

Being straight about the limits of this page is part of what makes the rest of it usable.

• We did not time deposits or withdrawals inside each app. Payout speed depends on the method and on verification status far more than on the software, and our individual reviews cover it book by book.
• We did not benchmark app launch speed or battery drain. Any figure we gave would depend on the handset and the network as much as the app.
• We did not read the review text behind each rating. The scores are counted; the complaints behind them are not summarised here.
• We cannot see market depth from a store listing – how many props a book prices on a Tuesday NHL game is invisible to this method, and it is the thing that varies most between books.
• What we did do is record every published figure both stores make available, on one day, for every registered sportsbook – which is more than any page currently ranking for this search has done.

Which Books Ship Updates Most Often

Update dates are the cheapest signal a store publishes, and they are worth reading with care: a recent release shows the app is being worked on, not that it is free of bugs, and a quiet app may simply be finished.

With that caveat, the market splits in two. Fourteen of the thirty-one shipped an iPhone release in the fortnight before we read the listings.

• Updated in the last fortnight (iOS): DraftKings and STX (9 September), bet365, FanDuel, BET99, Hard Rock Bet and TonyBet (8 September), PointsBet (7 September), Bally Bet and MONOPOLY Casino (5 September), Betway and BetRivers (4 September), Caesars (2 September), theScore Bet (29 August).
• Quiet for three weeks or more: ComeOn, PowerPlay and Swiper (25 August), Betano, BetVictor, Proline and ToonieBet (24 August), Betinia (21 August), Sports Interaction (19 August), BetMGM, PartySports and bwin (18 August), 888sport (17 August), Titan Play (13 August).
• Quiet for months: BetNova (6 June), NorthStar Bets (20 May) and NEO.bet (27 February) – the last of those had not shipped an iPhone release in over six months when we looked.

The three at the bottom are the ones worth noting. An app untouched since February is not necessarily broken, but it is not keeping pace with the operating system it runs on either.

What Each App Chooses to Advertise

An App Store description is a marketing document, and reading thirty-one of them side by side tells you what each book thinks its app is for. We searched every Canadian listing for the features operators normally lead with. One warning before the table: this records what an app advertises, not what it contains. An app can offer cash out and never mention it. Absence here is silence, not proof.

The silence is informative too. PartySports and bwin run the same software as BetMGM and Sports Interaction – the four apps sharing build 26.08.04 – yet the first two name no features while the second two advertise cash out and early payout. Same app, different amount of effort put into selling it.

Fourteen of These Apps Speak French

Ontario has roughly 600,000 francophones and French-language service rights in designated areas, so we checked which apps ship with French. The Canadian App Store publishes each app’s full language list, and the answer is better than you might expect – and for the wrong reasons.

Fourteen of the thirty-one apps support French. Seventeen do not.

The apps that do speak French mostly do so by accident of heritage: bet365, Betway and the four Entain builds carry twenty-odd European languages because they were built for Europe first, and French came along for the ride. NorthStar Bets, a Toronto company, ships twenty-five languages for the same reason – it runs on a licensed European platform.

The two that support exactly English and French – Proline and PowerPlay – are the only apps in the province whose language list looks like a deliberate decision about Canada.

What You Can Bet On From an Ontario App

Every registered Ontario book prices the full international menu, so the question is not whether an app covers your sport but how deeply. The volume sits where the local teams are – NHL (Leafs, Senators), NBA (Raptors), MLB (Blue Jays), NFL and CFL, and soccer, where the domestic sides matter far less than the Premier League and the Champions League. Two are worth checking book by book rather than assuming: the WNBA’s Toronto Tempo are new enough that market depth varies noticeably, and cricket is consistently underserved here relative to how much it is searched.

Depth on a given sport is the one thing a store listing cannot show you – we counted it board by board in our guide to sports betting in Ontario, and it is what varies most between the thirty-one apps. Our individual sportsbook reviews cover it book by book.

Bet Responsibly on Your Phone

An app is the most persuasive form a sportsbook takes. It sits on your home screen, it can interrupt you, and it removes every pause between the impulse and the bet. That is the point of it, and it is worth being deliberate about.

You must be 19 or older to bet in Ontario – not 18, whatever the 18+ label on the store listing says – and you must be physically inside the province when you place the bet.

• Set a deposit limit on the day you install. Every registered Ontario operator is required to offer daily, weekly and monthly limits, and to apply an increase only after a cooling-off period. Setting one before you deposit costs nothing; setting one afterwards is a decision you have to make twice.
• Set time limits and session reminders. The controls are in the same account menu as the deposit limit, and an on-screen reminder is the only thing in an app designed to interrupt you rather than hold you.
• Self-exclusion is available and it is not permanent unless you want it to be. Every registered operator must let you exclude yourself from its own site and app; Ontario also runs a central self-exclusion programme that applies across registered operators, so you do not have to do it brand by brand. Deleting the app is not self-exclusion – the account remains open.
• Look for the BetGuard mark. iGaming Ontario’s responsible-gambling standard appears alongside the regulator’s own mark in the footer or header of a registered site and app. Its absence on something calling itself an Ontario sportsbook is a reason to check the register.
• Turn off marketing notifications, keep the settlement ones. The first serve the operator; the second serve you.
• Do not save payment details for one-tap deposits. The friction is the safeguard.

Betting is entertainment with a cost, not a way to make money. If it stops feeling like entertainment, the limits above are on the same screen as the bet slip.

The Short Version

If you read nothing else on this page:

• On Android, install DraftKings. It is the only Ontario betting app rated 4.8 with a six-figure rating count, and the only major book whose Android version is rated higher than its iPhone version.
• On an older or full iPhone, install bet365. At 46.0 MB it is an eleventh the size of the largest app here, it runs on iOS 15, and 177,001 people have rated it 4.70.
• Check the score on your own platform before installing anything. BetVictor is 4.70 on iPhone and 2.5 on Android. PointsBet is 4.38 and 2.7. One name, two very different products.
• Do not download BetMGM, Sports Interaction, PartySports and bwin to compare them. All four were running build 26.08.04 at the time of this review, which points to one shared build behind four brands.
• Do not expect an iOS 18 app to install on a 2017 iPhone. Those same four require it; most of the market does not.

The App Is Not the Sportsbook

Everything on this page measures software: how big it is, what it runs on, how many people have rated it and whether anyone is still maintaining it. Those are real questions and almost nobody answers them with data. But they are not the questions that decide whether you are still happy with a book in six months.

Odds, market depth, payment methods, withdrawal times, live betting and customer support are not visible from a store listing – and a superb app can sit on top of an ordinary sportsbook, exactly as a mediocre app can front a very good one.   Yes, when the brand behind the app is on the iGaming Ontario register. Every app measured here belongs to a registered operator. You must be 19 or older and physically in Ontario to place a bet from one.
